For too long, the US has measured the health of our economy by counting the total number of jobs, not whether those jobs sustain and uplift the people in them. As we rebuild from the COVID-19 pandemic, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reimagine our measurement systems to more accurately reflect working peoples’ experiences and aspirations.

The Job Quality Measurement Initiative (JQMI) was launched by the Families and Workers Fund, in partnership with the Ford Foundation, Irvine Foundation, Lumina Foundation, and Omidyar Network, and in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Labor and more than 70 data experts, to surface bold, actionable pathways to strengthen the country’s job quality data infrastructure.
